First I want to thank  Maxine Gonser who shared her original free pattern that I have used many times before in newborn to 3 months but really wanted to make this in larger size currently I really needed size 2-3 Toddler size. I came across  Lollyscc post for a tunic style vs a pinafore and give it a try…

I had to make a few mods due to I crochet tight…this is what I did…

To make this a size 2T-3T, I used Caron Simply Soft Yarn, a H hook and I hook started as follows:

I Hook

Ch 68   Row 1: sc in second ch from hook and ea ch across. (67 sc)

Row 2: ch 2, turn, dc in first st and next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st. #dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from # across. (83 dc)

Row 3: ch 2, turn, dc in first st and next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st. #dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from # across. End by dc on top of ch 2 fro prev row. (100 dc)

Row 4: ch 2, turn, dc in first st and next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st. #dc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from # across. End by dc on top of ch 2 from prev row. (117 dc)

Switched to H Hook

Row 5: ch 2, turn, dc in same st. #skip next st, shell (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next st. Repeat from # across. dc in last st, dc on top of ch 2 from prev row. (57 shells)

Row 6: ch 2, turn, dc in same st, shell in next 6 shells, ch 3, skip next 16 shells, shell in next 13 shells, ch 3, skip next 16 shells, shell in next 6 shells, dc in last st, dc on top of ch 2 from prev row.

Row 7: ch 2, turn, dc in same st, shell in next 6 shells, dc in ea of next 3 ch, shell in next 13 shells, dc in ea of next 3 ch, shell in next 6 shells, dc in last dc and on top of ch 2 from prev row.

I joined at this point and worked an extra shell on the join and under each arm for round 8 (28 shells around)

Then I just worked a shell in each ch2 sp around for a total of 23 rounds.

Final round: Sl st into first ch2 sp, ch3 (counts as a dc), 3dc in same sp, * sc in sp before next shell. 5dc in next shell, repeat from * ending with a dc in same ch2 sp as start and join with a sl st to top of ch3.

I then sc’d around the neckline and chained 45 to created ties
